Nonprofit’s Success

Industry Associations

Case Background

A nonprofit organization focused on supporting women in leadership positions within the healthcare industry was facing challenges in maintaining its relevance in today's rapidly evolving landscape. Despite continued support from its partners and a dedicated cohort of members, the organization noticed a decline in interest from patrons and potential recruits. This trend raised concerns among the organization’s board members and staff, who were struggling to pinpoint the root causes of the diminishing engagement and how to revitalize their image and value proposition for all stakeholders. To address these challenges, the organization initiated a comprehensive review of its mission, activities, and outreach strategies.

The Recombinators team initiated the first phase of our FRAME methodology to pinpoint the challenges that, if addressed, would yield the greatest return for the organization. This phase began with a comprehensive approach to understanding the organization's current state and strategic landscape. We started by conducting in-depth interviews with key stakeholders, including board members, senior management, and frontline staff. These interviews aimed to gather a wide range of perspectives on the organization's strengths, weaknesses, and pressing challenges. Simultaneously, we reviewed the organization's current structure, strategic imperatives, and recent stakeholder survey data. This thorough examination allowed us to gain a holistic view of the organization's operations and the context in which it operates. Once the data collection phase was complete, our team consolidated the identified challenges into a series of structured templates. Each template was designed to evaluate the challenges based on their potential impact and the feasibility of addressing them. This step was crucial in ensuring that all challenges were systematically assessed and prioritized based on objective criteria. Following this consolidation, we organized a one-day workshop with the board and key staff members. The workshop concluded with a voting session where participants selected the most critical challenge to address.

Our Approach

We provided comprehensive materials to support the team in refining the nature of each identified challenge. The materials and support we provided played a crucial role in helping the team refine the nature of the key challenge and develop detailed, actionable plans. These plans were designed to address the selected challenge effectively, with a clear focus on achieving the desired outcomes and driving meaningful progress for the organization.
