A member of the leadership team in the Market Access division of a global pharmaceutical company engaged us to create and facilitate a team-building workshop centered around the Power of Great Questions. The purpose of this workshop was to equip the team with the skills to integrate these learnings into their daily activities, enhancing their ability to collaborate effectively, focus on customer needs, achieve superior results more efficiently, and minimize the need for rework. This initiative we helped our Client with aimed to foster a culture of curiosity and continuous improvement, ultimately strengthening their partnerships and driving impactful outcomes.
We initiated our search for proven questioning techniques by meticulously exploring both our internal database of winning innovation precedents and a variety of external sources. To gain a precise understanding of the participants' current questioning abilities, we conducted a comprehensive survey. This survey uncovered significant challenges, notably in asking the right questions and efficiently reaching the root cause of issues. Recognizing the critical need for impactful solutions, we delved into approximately 15 most powerful precedents to extract key insights that could address these challenges. From this extensive research, we identified two exemplary companies renowned for their success in leveraging powerful questions. These companies were selected to develop in-depth case studies, showcasing their innovative strategies and impressive outcomes. The resulting case studies provided a robust foundation for our workshop, equipping participants with actionable techniques to enhance their questioning skills and drive meaningful improvements in their daily work.

Our Approach
We discovered that the most powerful questions fall into six categories. During the workshop, we presented these six questioning techniques, with a detailed review of the 5W1H method before participants engaged in group exercises. After examining two case studies, the team discussed which questioning techniques contributed to the companies' successes and brainstormed how to apply these strategies in their own meetings. Participants then developed their own 5W1H questions tailored to real-world scenarios specific to their roles, aided by a provided question bank for inspiration.
