Background

Achieving successful commercialization for a drug in the hospital environment was becoming increasingly difficult pre-pandemic. However, the pandemic aggravated this massive challenge to the point when conventional solutions were hardly helping to make meaningful progress. Our client, a leading independent biopharmaceutical company providing a novel life-saving antimicrobial drug had a successful launch which was slowed substantially by the COVID19 developments. This created a critical need for developing an innovative way to win in a hospital setting.

Recombinators crafted a project approach leveraging the Strategic Innovation methodology that was rolled out in three phases. First, the team helped the client to frame the challenge based on a deeper understanding of the institutional access situation that emerged from primary and secondary research efforts.

First, the team helped the client to frame the challenge based on a deeper understanding of the institutional access situation that emerged from primary and secondary research efforts.

Then, we conducted a precedent search to generate a selection of cases that were instrumental in developing breakthrough ideas during the Ways to Win workshop. Finally, our team built on the workshop outcomes to provide detailed guidance to facilitate innovative strategy implementation and streamline tactics roll-out by the client team.

Output

The two strongest breakthrough ideas created by the client team with our guidance were translated into hospital access strategies supported by a range of innovative tactics. Each tactic had been mapped out in terms of the stakeholder impact, outlined in detail, and supplemented by a project timeline. Additionally, we developed visualizations to illustrate key tactical elements which helped to facilitate extended team feedback and drive engagement. Lastly, the dashboard with metrics was put in place to ensure correct and rigorous assessments of implementation efforts.
